A-SHIFT

A Shift

Lieutenant Seth Gorham • Firefighter Kalvi Sokk

A Shift brings together experience in structural firefighting, wildland operations, and crew leadership. Lieutenant Seth Gorham and Firefighter Kalvi Sokk serve alongside Umatilla Fire’s volunteers and resident interns, preparing each day for the range of emergencies our community faces.

Their 48-hour shifts include emergency response, hands-on training, apparatus checks, and equipment maintenance. It is steady, practical work with a shared purpose: being ready when someone needs help.

Kalvi Sokk

Firefighter | A Shift

Firefighter Kalvi Sokk joined Umatilla Rural Fire Protection District in 2023, bringing experience from a Type 2 Initial Attack wildland hand crew. That background gives him a practical understanding of demanding field operations and the teamwork required to work effectively in challenging conditions.

Kalvi holds Engine Boss and Field Observer certifications and continues to serve as a volunteer with Cascade Locks Fire. His experience contributes to A Shift’s ability to prepare for both the everyday demands of district service and the challenges of wildland fire response.

Away from work, Kalvi is usually outdoors. Whether rafting, rock climbing, or skiing, he enjoys opportunities to explore and stay active.
