Fire Prevention & Safety
Protecting our community starts before the call.
Behind every emergency call is someone whose world has just changed. A family standing outside their home. A business owner watching years of hard work disappear. A neighbor waiting to hear that everyone made it out.
That is why fire prevention matters.
At Umatilla Rural Fire Protection District, our commitment to you begins long before the sirens. It begins with helping a family recognize a hazard, teaching a child what to do when a smoke alarm sounds, and encouraging a neighbor to prepare before fire reaches their property.
Every fire prevented protects something irreplaceable.

The Most Important Things Aren’t Things.
They are the people gathered around your dinner table. The children asleep down the hall. The friends who walk through your front door. The memories you have made—and the ones you haven’t made yet.
A working smoke alarm. A clear way out. A conversation with your children. A few minutes spent correcting a hazard.
These actions may seem small. In an emergency, they can give someone the time they need to survive.
Our Community. Our Responsibility.
Here in Umatilla, we know how quickly conditions can change. Dry grass, strong winds, and a single spark can threaten homes and lives. Inside our homes and workplaces, everyday hazards can go unnoticed until something goes wrong.
We all have a part in keeping our community safe. When you prepare your household, maintain your property, or help a neighbor address a hazard, you protect more than your own home. You help protect everyone around you.
Our firefighters train to answer the call when you need us. We also want to give you the knowledge and confidence to prevent that call whenever possible.
Start Today. Protect Tomorrow.

Take a look around your home. Test your alarms. Talk with your family about how to get outside and where to meet. Ask questions when something doesn’t seem safe.
Use the resources in our Fire Prevention & Safety menu to take the next step. If you need guidance, reach out. We are proud to serve this community, and we want every person in it to have a safer place to live, work, and grow.
Because the people you love are the reason we do this.
